METER / GAUGE / DISPLAY  METER / GAUGE SYSTEM  Speedometer Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

w/ ABS

The combination meter assembly receives vehicle speed signals from the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) via the CAN communication system. The speed sensor detects the wheel speed and sends the appropriate signals to the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU). The brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) supplies power to the vehicle speed sensor. The brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) detects vehicle speed signals based on pulses of the voltage.

w/o ABS

The combination meter assembly receives vehicle speed signals from the speedometer sensor. The speedometer sensor detects input voltage that varies according to the vehicle speed. The speedometer sensor transmits vehicle speed signals as pulses to the combination meter assembly. The signal is changed to a pulse signal at the transistor in the combination meter assembly.

HINT:
·

Factors that affect the indicated vehicle speed include the tire size, tire inflation and tire wear. The speed indicated on the speedometer has an allowable margin of error. This can be tested using the GTS. For details about testing and the margin of error, see the reference chart.

·

w/ ABS:

If the vehicle speed sensor circuit has a malfunction, the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) stores DTCs. Troubleshoot the anti-lock brake system (w/ ABS) or vehicle stability control system (w/ VSC).
