POWER ASSIST SYSTEMS POWER STEERING SYSTEM TEST MODE PROCEDURE

The torque sensor zero point calibration is performed automatically when the test mode inspection is conducted after the power steering ECU assembly has been replaced.

Speed sensor signals can be checked easily in test mode.
·Test mode code C1571 is stored during transition to test mode. This code does not indicate a malfunction since the code will be cleared when the ECU determines that the sensor is normal.
·The test mode code is cleared simultaneously when test mode is terminated.
TEST MODE START-UP
Turn the ignition switch off.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Start the engine.
Turn the GTS on.
Switch the power steering ECU assembly to the test mode. Enter the following menus: Chassis / EMPS / Signal Check.

The EPS warning light blinks as shown in the illustration when test mode is entered.
- NOTICE:

If the torque sensor zero point calibration has not been performed, the EPS warning light comes on until the torque sensor zero point calibration is completed, and shows the test mode blink pattern after the torque sensor zero point calibration is completed.
CHECK VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL
Drive the vehicle until the vehicle speed reaches 10 km/h (6 mph) or more.

READ TEST MODE CODE
Check for DTCs in test mode.

Test mode code is cleared when test mode is terminated.
END OF TEST MODE
Return to normal mode by following the instructions on the GTS screen.
Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the GTS.
