PROCEDURE
31301
1.INSPECT AND ADJUST CLUTCH PEDAL HEIGHT
| *a | Pedal Height Adjust Point |
| *b | Push Rod Play and Free Play Adjust Point |
| *c | Clutch Pedal Height |
Turn back the floor carpet.
Check that the clutch pedal height is correct.
- Clutch Pedal Height from Floor:
Engine Type Pedal Height 2NZ-FE 158.1 to 168.1 mm (6.23 to 6.61 in.) 2ZR-FE 168.5 to 178.5 mm (6.64 to 7.02 in.)
Loosen the clutch pedal stopper nut and turn the clutch pedal stopper bolt until the correct height is obtained.
Tighten the clutch pedal stopper nut.
- Torque:
- 24.5 N*m (250 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf)

2.INSPECT CLUTCH PEDAL FREE PLAY AND PUSH ROD PLAY
| *a | Push Rod Play |
| *b | Clutch Pedal Free Play |
Check that the clutch pedal free play and push rod play are correct.
- HINT:
-
Pay close attention to the change in resistance to distinguish between clutch pedal free play and push rod play while performing the inspection.
Depress the clutch pedal until clutch resistance begins to be felt.
- Clutch Pedal Free Play:
5.0 to 15.0 mm (0.197 to 0.590 in.)
Gently depress the clutch pedal until resistance begins to increase a little.
- Push Rod Play at Pedal Top:
1.0 to 5.0 mm (0.0394 to 0.196 in.)
If necessary, adjust the clutch pedal free play and push rod play.
- HINT:
-
The push rod play can be adjusted by changing the length of the push rod. The clutch pedal free play changes together with the push rod play.
Loosen the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis lock nut and turn the push rod until correct free play and push rod play are obtained.
- NOTICE:
-
If the clutch pedal free play and push rod play are not within the standard range even after adjustment, inspect the related parts.
Tighten the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis lock nut.
- Torque:
- 11.8 N*m (120 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf)
After adjusting the clutch pedal free play and push rod play, check the clutch pedal height.
- NOTICE:
-
When loosening the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis lock nut, be sure to hold the clevis in place by its octagonal portion.

3.INSPECT CLUTCH RELEASE POINT
- CAUTION:
-
When checking the clutch release point, ensure that the vehicle is secure.
| *a | 25 mm (0.984 in.) or more |
| *b | Release Point |
| *c | Pedal Stroke |
| *d | Full Stroke End Position |
Check the clutch release point.
Be sure to apply the parking brake and secure the wheels using wheel chocks.
Start the engine and run it at idle.
Without depressing the clutch pedal, slowly move the shift lever to R until the gears contact.
Gradually depress the clutch pedal and measure the stroke distance from the point that the gear noise stops (release point) up to the full stroke end position.
- Standard Distance:
25 mm (0.984 in.) or more (from pedal stroke end position to release point)
If the distance is not as specified, perform the following procedures:
Check the clutch pedal height.
Check the push rod play and clutch pedal free play.
Bleed the clutch line.
Check the clutch cover assembly and clutch disc assembly.
